For what it's worth, I leave the cowel cover off when I pitch up; that way if/when the AC power fails we can heat with gas without having to go outside to remove the cover
Also as we both shower in the van I pop the gas on to speed up re-heat between showers.

The instruction manual is quite clear regarding operating the heater on gas but operating on electric it's not so clear,for example can the electric heater be left on all day every day.
