Senator Series 6 Arizona
Bailey gave itself something of
a problem with the Senator range when it upgraded the Series 6 Pageant. A generous specification on the range below the Senator meant the Series 6 needed to be impressive. Lucky for them it was, step forward the Arizona four-berth side dinette model.
Just on paper, the Senator is
an excellent package. It has the
AL-KO ATC stability system, Secure wheel locks and a Tracker as standard. For families though, the side-dinette layout is a proven winner as it gives two single beds for kids and a large double bed in the front dinette.
As with all the best caravans, there are plenty of obvious things to recommend it, but it's spending some time in the van that makes you fully appreciate it. One of the biggest single improvements is the table. It's still lightweight, but folding leaves make it big enough to eat at, and more substantial than regular van tables.

Conqueror 530
If you want to have the most stylish single-axle on site, you won't go far wrong with the Swift Conqueror 530, it is a superb four-berth caravan.
As well as the obvious attraction of that eye-catching exterior, the all-round specification of the Conqueror is very impressive, too. As a caravan for a small family, the side-dinette four-berth layout really works well, providing plenty of seating by day, and four beds
at night.
With the Conqueror, however, it's the detail improvements that impress the most. The taller, wider access door makes a real difference, while quality touches like the new blinds and ambient lighting give the 530 massive showroom appeal.
Security is high on the list, too, AL-KO Secure wheel locks, intruder alarm and a Phantom Tracker are all part of the standard package.

| SPRITE |
Price: £10799 MPTLM: 1335kg |
Major 5
The Swift Group is well known for producing excellent caravans, but the entry-level Sprite range is a real favourite of ours. The Major 5 has a very traditional layout, with a dinette at either end and an occasional bunk over the rear double. What really impresses about the Sprite is that for a budget van, it doesn't feel cheap. The cabinetwork is as good as you'll find in one of the range-topping Sterling or Swift models, and following some modest upgrades for 2008, the Sprite now boasts a full cooker, removable carpets and a bigger fridge which will further boost the appeal.

| AVONDALE |
Price: £15495 MPTLM: 1500kg |
Osprey S
While this may seem a slightly strange choice for a small family caravan, we just couldn't shake off the good feeling we had about this traditional Avondale.
Outside, it is unmistakably an Avondale, with the sleek front panel and distinctive off-white colour scheme. Inside, it takes
a slightly different approach to the side dinette layout. It has the kitchen opposite the door and the dinette on the left and it works well.
The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of space on the distinctive, shaped counter top. The upgraded rear washroom is good, too, with a separate shower cubicle, large wardrobe and smart washbasin area.
Undoubtedly though, Avondale has done a great job in making the Osprey feel like an upmarket and desirable caravan. The provision of AL-KO's ATC stability system as standard was also a welcome addition to the equipment list.

Quesar 252
Lunar's Quasar range
is a pretty traditional
line-up but that did it no harm
when we were looking at small family caravans. It's a very similar set up to the Sprite Major 5 but manages to pull off Lunar's favourite trick, of cramming a lot of specification into a lightweight frame. For only a small weight premium over the svelte Sprite, it packs in a CD player, microwave oven and a stabiliser. For 2008 there are new work surfaces, furnishings and wallboards. The 525 layout comprises dinettes front and back, with an occasional bunk over the rear double. If weight is more of a consideration than price, the Quasar ticks the box.
