PART 8 GAS SAFETY CHECKS |
Caravans are very safe provided they are looked after correctly. One area with potential for safety problems is the gas system. Repairs need to be completed by an approved workshop, but these simple checks can be completed by any owner and can provide peace of mind. We always recommend that a simple carbon-monoxide detector be stuck up nearby. |

The flexible gas hose will have a date stamped on it. If this is more than five years ago, get the hose changed. If there is any visible damage to the hose, again, replace it as soon as possible. |

|
If you use gas connectors with rubber washers on ` the end, check them for 'f damage. These washers have a hard time, getting repeatedly compressed when the bottle is attached. Eventually they fail, leading to a small leak. Replacements cost pennies. |

The flue for gas appliances is often tucked away behind
a service access panel, but it's worth a look. If the flue is damaged (below), exhaust fumes can leak into the van and the heat can damage cabinetwork. |

|
Light your gas hobs and oven if fitted and look at the flames. The flames must be blue
as this indicates that everything is working correctly. If the flames are yellow, turn them off and get the system checked professionally. |
