Meet the motorhome used for NASA space missions

There aren’t many iconic motorhomes in popular culture, but the modified Airstream model used by NASA is probably one of the most recognisable. The NASA Astrovan was used to transport Space Shuttle crews to and from the launch pad and so despite its 27 years of service, it’s only clocked up 27,000 miles.

There aren’t many iconic motorhomes in popular culture, but the modified Airstream model used by NASA is probably one of the most recognisable.

The NASA Astrovan was used to transport Space Shuttle crews to and from the launch pad and so despite its 27 years of service, it’s only clocked up 27,000 miles.

With the winding down of the Space Shuttle programme, the Astrovan recently made its last journey, but the vehicle isn’t going to be decommissioned just yet — NASA plans to keep it maintained and ready for the next generation of astronauts.
