I like the stately, upright stance of today's car. To be honest, some of the details on the new Range Rover look a bit fussy to my eyes. Perhaps the new car will grow on me when I see it in the metal at the Paris show in a few weeks' time.

 

Whatever you think of the styling, there's some impressive engineering underneath. The new car is a whopping 420kg lighter than the old car, although that still means a kerbweight of close to 2.4 tonnes.

 

The all-aluminium monocoque body structure is largely responsible for the Range Rover's diet, which contributes to improved fuel economy and lower emissions. The mpg and CO2 figures will be confirmed next month.

 

Every car will come with air suspension, and Land Rover is claims cornering and agility have been improved without sacrificing the current car's exceptional ride comfort.

 

The car also features the next generation of Land Rover's Terrain Response system, which varies the car's settings to suit different driving conditions, both on- and off-road.

 

Inside, rear-seat passengers will enjoy 118mm more legroom. Buyers will have the option of the Executive Class seating package, which provides two rear seats instead of the normal three-person bench.

 

The new Range Rover will be available with three engine options a supercharged V8 petrol, and TDV6 and SDV8 diesels.
