Audi’s new five-door small hatchback beat off stiff competition

from the likes of the new Range Rover to win the award at last night’s ceremony

at Grosvenor House in London.

What Car?

editor-in-chief, Chas Hallett, said: “The Audi A3 Sportback mixes excellent

refinement and an accomplished driving experience with easily the finest cabin

quality ever seen in a small family hatchback. It sets a new benchmark and it

is keenly priced, a combination that makes it a worthy Car of the Year.”

The Range Rover was named Luxury Car of the Year on a night

when many category winners retained their titles from 2012.

Ford won four prizes, with the Fiesta taking the supermini

award and the Mondeo being named best family car and estate. The Mondeo towing credentials

aren’t in doubt as a previous overall winner at the Tow Car Awards. The Focus

ST-1 was named best hot hatch.

The BMW X3 and Seat Alhambra are both capable tow cars, and

both received recognition from What Car?.

The X3 was named best SUV and the Alhambra best MPV.
