So, I have just returned, I dont want to be here
I returned two days early and couldn't be more pleased to get home
Having sampled the Cumbrian weather of three fairly good days and nine of deluges we had had enough. The air was so saturated with moisture my luggholes were morphing into gills. Thursday nights weather showed a lull in the rain, not stopped but lull, so we went and got fuel about 10pm ready for the off the next morning.
Sure enough as promised, it wasn't persisting it down but drizzling, so we packed up with three others on our part of the site who went home early which left just two outfits. The warden said others on the main site were going early also.
What made it worse was family and friends at home texting that they'd only had rain once since we'd left and that wasn't enough to water the garden.
Due to the weather and volume of traffic it took 6 hours to get home but glad we did it.
When I look back now since we've been home I've mown the grass, cleared out the pond, pruned the shrubs amongst other small jobs and it's been bliss thinking we could have been huddled up in the van and me dreading the time to take the dogs out because we all came back like drowned rats. Sorry Cumbria, nice scenery when you can see it, but I don't miss you one bit
We aren't having much luck this year. We came home from Snowdonia early because of the incessant rain and midges. Let's hope Top Lodge has better weather in a few weeks time. Only home for one week and then it's Cornwall for two. That's the last then until Christmas and the New Year provided our drive and road isn't iced up like last year.

Next season it has to be somewhere warmer Lord B. I'm sure the milkmaids and other staff will extol the virtues of a soiree into La Belle France for you and Lady B. I'm sure the Chateaux would provide some clues to the 'inheritance' - after all Brakewynde has a definitely Francais ring about it!
Get off to Calais, and get thee southern......................!
There's only one thing stopping me Val .... Her Ladyship. I wanted to go to either Spain or Portugal for three months in the winter. I sent for the books and for a split second I thought I was winning her round but unfortunately not. We have two lots of friends who go to the south of France regularly and even they can't persuade her.
We've been six times, three camping and three times hiring a cruiser on the Canal du Midi (going by rail), and she loved it but she says she doesn't like the idea of driving on the right. She can't drive, I do all the driving
It's called womens logic
Maybe at the end of another wet holiday it might be time to produce those brochures again..............................?
Hi LB, sorry to hear you got cut short by the wheather, we were in Somerset and arrived with the clouds above and in the evening/early morning the rain was so torrential I thought there was a bloke on my roof with a pnumatic drill, it was deafening!!
The Kampa was taking a full hit this time, but worst was to come although no rain on Sunday the winds were gusting, so much so I thought about taking it down, then decided it would proberbly cause more damage to the van and awning, so battle No 2 was to commence, I doubled up on the pegs externally on each of the rubber ladders, then noticed the eyelets in the draught skirt and pegged them inside. Hey presto it stayed all week, and there were more wind gusts through out the week, with a few minor showers, Very impressed
