Can anyone tell me about air conditioning in caravan''s. Ive got a three year old coachman 540/4/vip with air con as standard but when on maximum cold and left for a while the van doesn''t get that cold. surely it would be like walking into a fridge when left on for a couple of hours

Hi Davie, I think you will find if you read the tech sheet for the air-con unit that it will only cool the van so many degrees below the ambient temperature.

DavieWhat make and model is it?I have one in the bailey and it cools down enough on a hot day to make you want to put a coat on. Yours may need a service or just the filters cleanedSteve

Maybe the aircon fluid has leaked out and the system needs topping up.

Dave, If it needs re-gassing, then you need to fix the leak first, usually these are sealed units and you lose some compressor oil too, if you have a leak - see if you can look inside and see if you can see oil around any components - if you can then you have a leak - if not you may have blocked inlet filters - these are usually screen type and can be washed to clean.

Most air conditioning units will normally work down to a temperature of around 17c, so if you have an outside ambient temperature of 28c you can cool the van down to around 17c, I might be wrong but I do not think they will start cooling when the outside ambient is below that figure, as it is already cool enough outside I think, if that makes any sense.
