Introduction
Think of Belgium and the first things that probably come to mind are chocolate and Brussels, home of the EU. After that it is often just the country you drive through to get deeper into Continental Europe. But to do this would be to miss out on a bounty of interesting sights and places.
Belgium is an ideal destination for anyone thinking of taking their
caravan abroad for the first time because it is only a couple of hours from Calais via the A16/E40 autoroute. Simply follow the signs for Brussels and Ghent.
You will find the autoroutes
quieter than British motorways, with rest areas and service stations – les aires – appearing every few miles. There are also plenty of top-quality campsites around the main cities
for those who don’t want to tackle town traffic.
Thanks to their proximity to Calais, towns such as Bruges, Ghent and Brussels make Belgium the ideal destination for a short break.
