In the heart of the Peak District National Park, this long-established, family-owned park makes up with its glorious location what it lacks in luxury facilities. That said, facilities are perfectly adequate, especially for the more practical caravanner, with a modern toilet-and-shower building providing plenty of hot water, a launderette and washing-up facilities. On-site entertainment is similarly basic but pleasant and relaxing: the pretty clubhouse serves beer and has outside picnic tables, while an adjoining children's play area lets parents enjoy
a drink while keeping an eye on the kids. There's a pub within
half-a-mile of the site, plus fishing, horseriding and golf facilities are all within easy reach.
But while it's important to be comfortable when you're camping, that's certainly not the main reason you'll be coming to Greenhills. As you've probably guessed from the name, the site offers superb views of lush, green, rolling hills - those of the beautiful Wye Valley - while the surrounding area provides miles of inspiring walks and rambles. These include the Monsal Trail, a disused railway line converted into eight miles of excellent scenic walking. Of course, one consequence of this undulating scenery is that some of the 12-acre site is undulating, too. But, while the lower pitches are slightly sloping, those at the top are perfectly level. Both sides of the park are sheltered by woodland.
