The Scottish Borders is one of the most colourful areas of the British Isles, with an amazing range of colours in its natural habitats: from the bright yellow of the gorse in May, to the wide range of reds and yellows in autumn. Our Great Escape will lead you through some of the area’s most impressive landscapes and riversides, by car and on foot. You’ll experience the great diversity of the area and its stunning scenery. With luck, you’ll see otters, kingfishers, herons, and other wildlife. We also hope it will give you an appreciation of the important influence the countryside has had on Scotland’s greatest literary heroes such as James Hogg, and Sir Walter Scott one of Scotland’s greatest writers and poets. We open the feature with a tour around the Borders and the landmarks of Scott’s life.
Part one of our Borders Great Escapes was published in the August issue.
