GREAT ESCAPES
Great escapes to Yorkshire

Introduction
People who say it’s grim up North have obviously never been there. And they certainly can’t have visited Yorkshire. Famous for its rugged landscape, its puddings, and the locals’ dry wit, the region has more than its fair share of beguiling qualities.
A combination of natural beauty and human history make this county a fascinating and refreshing place to visit – and somewhere you won’t tire of in a hurry.
In this Great Escape we’ve done the hard work, visiting incredible country houses and tracking down film locations, while finding the time to stop at some of the fine eateries to sample the local fare – from curd tarts to smoked fish. Yorkshire spans a huge swathe of northern England, so we headed to Knaresborough at the heart of the region. On their own, these tours would have been enjoyable enough, but with the warm Yorkshire welcome we encountered at every stop, our stay was even more memorable.
