28 June, 2012, is a day caravan owners from the East Midlands would rather forget after a freak hailstorm caused over £400,000 of caravan damage. This year we’re all hoping for better weather,  but it’s worth checking that you are fully insured against the unexpected.

FREAK STORM HIT HINCKLEY AREA

At the height of midsummer, the market town of Hinckley Leicestershire and surrounding area was hit by a freak storm of golf ball-sized hailstones, which created a total insurance claims bill of £415,660 for Caravan Guard.

This is a phenomenal figure considering that Caravan Guard has received just 117 hail damage claims since July 2007. 83 per cent of these came as a result of one day’s torrential hail.

TORRENTIAL HAIL DAMAGED SKYLIGHTS

Over the course of the day, Caravan Guard’s in-house claims team was inundated with customers claiming for roof damage, damage to exterior panels, windows and skylights.

Although a handful of customers claimed for minor dents and scratches, the majority had suffered extensive – in some cases irreparable – damage to their caravan.

The Caravan Guard claims team was able to respond quickly to customers and aimed to deliver a professional, one-to-one service when it really mattered.Caravan Guard say this is a good example of why it’s vital for caravan owners to obtain specialist insurance cover.
