You have voted in your thousands and we are happy to reveal what you think are the best places to stay when on a caravan holiday in the UK. Our Top 100 Sites Guide, produced by Practical Caravan, Practical Motorhome and Caravan Sitefinder, is the definitive guide to camping and caravanning sites in Great Britain. So, who was your number one in 2014?

Congratulations go to Whitefield Forest Touring Park near Ryde on the Isle of Wight, which has been crowned the overall winner. It secured the top spot after receiving excellent reviews from readers who stayed there in caravans, motorhomes and tents, but it also scored excellently with our site reviews team.

With spacious pitches, heated washrooms and a small shop on site, as well as Wi-Fi and a children’s play area, Whitefield clearly ticks a lot of boxes. Pets are allowed, too, and there is provision for disabled visitors. But our survey proved that its success was down to more than just what it offered, but how it offered its services. The way the site is sympathetically placed within its woodland environment and the warm welcome given by the owners also brought widespread praise.

So what are the top sites in the UK for caravans? Sitting in the number one spot is a site that has achieved great success in previous Top 100 surveys, Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park. An adults only site in the picturesque Somerset countryside, it is a quiet site with good facilities. Your caravan is even towed to your pitch for you. All of which goes some way to explaining why this site is a triple winner in our 2014 survey, rated the top adults only site and the best in the Somerset, Avon & Wiltshire region, as well as number one for caravans.

Ross Park in neighbouring Devon is the runner up, rated the second best site for caravans in the UK and also scooping the prize for the best in Devon. It is a site where pitch privacy is important and a place that gives visitors great views over Dartmoor.

In the bronze medal position for top sites for caravans in the UK is our overall winner, Whitefield Forest Touring Park on the Isle of Wight. It is also, perhaps unsurprisingly, a regional winner, being your number one site in South East England.

At number four in our list of top sites for caravans we’re off to Wales – many congratulations to The Plassey, near Wrexham. Also the number one site in Wales in our 2014 survey, it has 60 touring pitches, all hardstanding and an indoor heated swimming pool, among its many attractions.

The site you’ve rated fifth best for caravans in the UK is also your number one place to pitch your caravan when on a holiday in Dorset – South Lytchett Manor. Three miles from Poole, nestled in 20 acres of parkland and with a good shop on site as well as pubs within walking distance, it is a worthy regional winner.

Plough Lane Caravan Park near Chippenham in Wiltshire is number six in our list of best sites for caravan holidays. An adults only campsite with facilities of a high standard and a field in which to exercise your dog, it is well situated for those wishing to take in Bath, Stonehenge and Devizes.

At number seven it is Callow Top Holiday Park. And it’s another regional winner, rated as the best in the Heart of England, as well as coming out on top for sites for camping. In Ashbourne, Derbyshire, this site has a heated outdoor swimming pool, a pub and restaurant, a bar/cafe, a sun terrace and a licenced supermarket, as well as an amusement arcade and a games field – phew!

Ord House Country Park near Berwick-upon-Tweed was rated as the eighth best site for caravans in the UK. Not only that, it also received the top site in North East England gong, as well as the best open all year site award – many congratulations! With beautiful surroundings and good facilites, including a shop, a bar and a woodland dog walking area, it proved popular with respondents this year.

At number nine it is Silverdale, also scooping the best in North West England and best for family accolades in our 2014 travel guide. This is Holgates’ flagship park with extensive facilites including a heated swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, a gym, a pitch-and-putt course and a restaurant and bar.

And closing our top 10 list of campsites in the UK that are best for caravans as rated by you, we are heading east to a site near Woodbridge in Suffolk. Run Cottage Touring Park is open all year and is also a regional winner, taking the best site in Eastern England award. With new washrooms, a tourist information area and close to a pub and a village shop, it is a popular place for caravan holidays in the region.

We hope this whets your appetite. Read the full list of winners in our Top 100 Sites Guide 2014 in the April 2014 edition of Practical Caravan, to help you get the best from your caravan holiday this year. Happy touring!
