So, what has the popular Bristol-based Bailey brand got in store for caravanners in its new season range?

For 2016, the UK’s sole southern volume caravan manufacturer has chosen to dedicate all of its resources to one major model overhaul. Following last year’s revamp of the flagship Unicorn, this time around it’s the turn of the mid-market Pegasus (with the GT65 tag dropped for 2016). And, bearing in mind the success of the latest Unicorn, it’s no surprise to find that the fourth-generation Pegasus follows its lead with fresh Polar White sidewalls and the new Bailey family look, featuring ‘flying B’ graphics and much-improved front and rear styling, with a rounded rear roofline.

There has been a thorough revamp to the line-up, as well, with the four- and six-berth French bed twin-axle Bologna and Turin dropped to make way for a trio of new models. The 1275kg Modena answers customers’ pleas for a lightweight four-berth with a fixed nearside bed, and there’s the now obligatory arrival of a transverse island bed, in the new Brindisi. The range is completed by the huge five-berth Palermo, the sole twin-axle, with fixed bunk beds and a side dinette in the style of the single-axle Ancona, which has also been revamped to follow the rest of the range in adopting a full-width end washroom.

Weights are down by an average of 20kg, with single-axle MTPLMs ranging from 1265-1475kg, and inside the Pegasus has received the same floorplan rationalisation as the Unicorn to free up to 10% more floorspace, depending on model. It has also followed the flagship’s lead in having its battery moved to under the floor in the centre of the caravan.

Inside there are detail improvements throughout, with larger kitchen windows, longer sofas and plenty of specification boosts, such as pre-wiring for a motor mover, new LED lighting, an uprated dual-fuel Truma Combi 6E boiler and the 133-litre Dometic slimline tower fridge in larger single-axle models. It’s not all give and no take, however: ATC is no longer standard, the premium tyres of old have gone and a wheel lock is now an option.

A new ‘Mendip Ash’ wood effect is complemented by attractive ‘Richmond’ furnishings with lined curtains, or optional ‘Belvoir’ with blackout curtains and a ‘shark’s fin’ armrest. The lounge has received the most thorough makeover, with angled, domestic-style curved backrests and a revised bed make-up system, that uses split sofa bases to fold out to make the new ‘Dream Sleep’ mattress.
