Practical Caravan is delighted to announce a winner in our ‘Go Big or Go Home’ competition to become Roving Reporters for the magazine and website for the next 12 months, and enjoy the comfort of a new, 8ft-wide Elddis Avanté 866 throughout the 2017 season.

From hundreds of entries, the runners and riders were narrowed down to a competitive shortlist by judges from both Practical Caravan and Elddis, and the combination of some ambitious plans, a superbly written entry and a great family selfie secured the services of the Avanté for the Johnston family – mum Lucie, dad David, plus kids Abi (8) and Tom (6) – from Perthshire, Scotland

Although they are relative newcomers to the caravanning world, having only taken the plunge and bought their Bailey Ranger from a local family last year, the Johnstons are already passionate enthusiasts and hope to extend their adventures across the UK and into Europe as they tackle touring all year round.

After learning of their win, the Johnstons paid a visit to Perthshire Caravans to meet the latest addition to the family, with the kids immediately naming the Avanté 866 ‘Ellie’.

“The surprise of winning has been the biggest thing so far,” said Lucie. “After all, it’s always someone else, isn’t it? But not this time, and we have big plans to make the most of it. Abi has already bagsied the top sleeping pod – which has enough space for her extensive teddy collection – and Dave remains tragically thrilled by the touchscreen space- and water-heating controller and the proliferation of electrical sockets! A big thank you to Elddis and Practical Caravan – we are sure that the next year is going to be just as exciting as our first glimpse.”

Look out for updates from the family over the coming months in Practical Caravan magazine!
