Meet two Bailey caravans designed to bring families together on tour without breaking the bank, plus we’ve a host of holiday ideas in our latest issue

Hands up if you fell in love with caravanning in childhood? Or if you want to make memories with your children on tour?

That’s right, family caravans are a crucial part of our favourite pastime, which is why this month we’re hitching up with a pair of brand-new Bailey caravans that claim to have put families at the heart of their design.

First under the spotlight is our cover star, the new Bailey Pursuit 570-6, a six-berth, double-bunk-bed van that at just shy of £16,500, we think represents a fantastic buy for families.

Or how about the five-berth Bailey Pursuit 560-5? This end-washroom model with an MTPLM of 1407kg has fixed bunks, a make-up double in the lounge and a handy dinette. Is this more your cup of tea?

Compare them for yourself in the brand-new, June 2017 edition of Practical Caravan – it’s on sale now!

Swift, Buccaneer and Hymer on test

And we’re not done there. As well as Bailey’s entry-level Pursuits, this month we’re also checking out a luxury family caravan.

The twin-axle, six-berth Buccaneer Galera is a treat! With a super spec including self-levelling, a solar panel, and external mains and gas barbecue points, you’ll be wanting for little.

Once you’ve found the £31,699 this model commands, not forgetting a tow car that’s a match for its 2000kg MTPLM, that is…

At a slightly more manageable £27,690, this month we also review the Hymer Nova GL 470. But with just two berths and a not insignificant MTPLM of 1700kg, can this understated offering make a case for itself?

And last but by no means least, this month we load a Swift Challenger 635 with our gear, hitch up and head to France to put it through its paces.

There is little doubt that this island-bed, mid-washroom, six-berth van is impressive – but watch the price-tag. Find out more in our June magazine.

These boots were made for walking

Once you’ve found your perfect caravan, we’ve plenty of ideas for your next holiday.

Turn to page 32 as Practical Caravan’s Bryony Symes discovers why Dover is a great destination in itself and so much more than ‘just’ a ferry port.

And keep reading because from page 36 she shares 10 top sites for walking holidays to mark the fact that May is National Walking Month. From the Highlands to Cornwall’s Tintagel Castle, with ideas spanning the length of the country, there’s no excuse to not lace up your boots and get out there!

You can also read about Lucie Johnston and family’s adventures in Loch Lomond, find out which sites are the best Suffolk has to offer, and journey to Italy with Elaine and Joe Ormerod.

And there’s more!

We’ve got expert advice if you’re looking at used caravans for sale, review tow cars including the Peugeot 3008, share top tips to ensure your van is loaded safely and show you how to upgrade your caravan’s seven-pin towing plugs.

And if you’re preparing for your next tour, check out this month’s awning review and our group test of upholstery cleaners, to help you get your van ready for action.

So don’t miss our latest magazine, stuffed with caravanning goodness for spring, summer and beyond!
