This mirror comes ready to use. Two rubber straps wrap around the back of the car mirror, and lugs hold it at the top and bottom.
The hooks at the ends of the supple rubber straps fit easily
onto the clips, while the hinged arms make it easy to get a good
fit on all shapes and sizes of wing mirrors. Lugs at the front of the mirror are not so large that they interfere with the car mirror's movement. We got a snug fit on our test car's mirror, without any obvious movement or vibration when driving.
Verdict This great-value model does everything it should, and
is easy to attach. It should fit securely to a variety of mirrors.

You can use the Magnum straight from the box. Two rubber straps wrap around the back of the car mirror and clip to its hooks on the underside. The plastic arms have mid-point hinges for a snug fit.
However, the straps were only just long enough for our mid-sized car mirror. What's more, the plastic catches on the end of the straps are rigid and don't fit easily onto their hooks; one wouldn't attach at all. Also, the lugs on the front of the articulated arms seemed incomplete on our sample mirror and didn't hook round securely. However, the decent-sized mirror moves smoothly in its ball socket and is, therefore, easy to adjust.
Verdict The hinged arms of this model should make it fit snugly onto towcar mirrors of different shapes and sizes, but the
awkward clips and inadequate lugs let it down.

This comes fully constructed, with two rubber straps that wrap around the vehicle's own mirror and clip onto the plastic hooks underneath. Two straight, unhinged arms grip the upper and lower edges of the car mirror.
The rubber straps are long, so they ought to fit all sizes of mirror. But the plastic arms are not hinged, so the Stinger is best suited to smaller, car-style, mirrors. Large plastic lugs help it grip securely, but hinder adjustments to the car's wing mirror.
Verdict This is amazing value,
and not a bad product at all for
a non-4x4 mirror.

This mirror needs to be assembled before you can use it. The strap, which comes in several parts and has suction pads attached, wraps around the car mirror and acts as an anchor for the tubular metal arm that holds the extension mirror. Unfortunately, it was a fiddle to fit to our car. The rigid plastic straps pop apart as you try to fit them around the car mirror, and if the suction pads drop off, they are almost impossible to refit. Once it's in position, however, tightening the straps is easy.
Verdict The rigid straps and difficult fitting it let this product down, as does the price. Its only advantage is the easy removal of the mirror head.

The assembly on this involves two clamps that attach to the top of the car mirror and one rubber strap that stretches around the back to hook on from underneath.
The decent-quality clamps on this model allow plenty of space for fitting this round a car mirror's frame, and the hook at the end of the usefully long strap is large for
a secure grip. Both features mean the Argus can be adapted for any size car mirror and stays securely in place once all the brackets are tightened. This could be a bit heavy for less sturdy car mirrors, which could lead to vibration or tilting.
Verdict This is an excellent product that is easy to attach to any style of mirror. The large face provides an excellent rear view, but it is also heavy.

This mirror comes ready for fastening in place. It has two long rubber straps that wrap around the car mirror and clip onto its own plastic hooks gripping the wing mirror from underneath.
The long straps suggest that
it can fit a large mirror, but the hingeless plastic arms made it difficult to affix securely to our test car. The ball joint, where the car mirror attaches to the Easi View's plastic arms, is so stiff it's difficult to adjust the way you want. But it provides a view that is almost as good as what you get with pricier models.
Verdict It's fine for the price, providing a clear, wide view, but it is difficult to angle accurately.

Ready assembled, this has rubber straps that are semi-permanently attached to let you slide it onto your car mirror, rather than 'wrap and clip'. This is best suited to the mirrors on non-4x4s with parallel edges top and bottom, because its arms are unhinged and the fixed straps make sliding it into place difficult on anything else.
The mirror head has little flexibility and is jerky to adjust. Despite its low price, the glass is crystal clear.
Verdict This simple budget model is best suited to non-4x4 mirrors, and the field of view is restricted.

This comes ready assembled. Its two plastic clamps attach to the top of your car mirror and the rubber strap stretches around the back to hook onto the underside of the wing mirror. The long strap lets you fit this model to a mirror of any size. The clamps are robust, and are hinged independently
so you can fasten them securely to
a mirror frame with straight or curved edges.
Verdict This mirror attaches very securely, is well made and will fit all sizes of wing mirrors.

Ready assembled, this Quest product has two rubber straps that wrap around the back of the car mirror, where plastic hooks clip on from underneath.
Its straps are
long, so you'll find it easy to adjust them to the length you need before clipping it into place. The plastic arms are not hinged, but they fitted our test vehicle very well.
The pronounced lugs clip firmly into place. Despite the low price, the glass used is of reasonably high quality, producing a clear image. The mirror moves smoothly in its ball-socket,
so it's easy to adjust.
Verdict This low-priced mirror is straightforward and well-made.

MILENCO UNIVERSAL TOWING MIRROR

Attach the strap and the metal arm of the mirror, and this model is ready to affix. Two plastic clamps attach to the top of your wing mirror, and the strap stretches around the back to hook underneath the frame. The chunky clamps are easy to attach and, to prevent damage to paintwork, the Universal has rubber-covered pads. Care is required, however, as the pads will pop off if you retract the screws too far.
The wide rubber strap is long enough to use with large vehicle mirrors, and the glass comes in flat and convex versions. Milenco says it will readily supply spare parts which may get lost with everyday use.
Verdict This is well made, using high-quality materials that won't damage your car. It's also easy to attach to all kinds of mirrors.

This Reich model has three straps, with suction pads attached, that wrap around the back of the car mirror and act as an anchor for the removable tubular metal arm.
But it is a fiddle to get this to fit snugly. The non-elastic straps may need several adjustments before they provide a close fit, and the straps are difficult to lengthen or shorten. But once you've set the correct length, you shouldn't have to make any changes the next time you affix the mirror. This is because, unlike with similar models, you loosen only one screw to release the mirror arm for solo driving, without affecting the way it's attached to the car mirror. The subtly convex glass gives a sharp view that is wide and tall.
Verdict Once you've got the Reich Excellent View in place it provides a superb image. Just make sure to fit it well in advance of setting off.

This mirror's unusually designed sucker attaches directly to the glass of your car's mirror. It anchors the mirror surprisingly well, and, because it attaches to the wing mirror's glass, you can adjust the towing mirror using your car's own mirror control.
However, major shortcomings let it down. The extension mirror
is made from poor-quality glass
that provides a blurred and
distorted view, which is very disorientating. This leaves you with the temptation to rely on your car's own mirror – but it has a big sucker stuck in the middle of it.
Verdict This promises so much and is an unusual idea, but the manufacturers need to improve
on the mirror head.

This comes partly assembled, with two plastic clamps that attach to the top of
the wing mirror and one rubber strap that stretches around the back and hooks underneath.
This has the best clamps and screws of any model we tested, with ergonomic wing-nuts for tightening to a car mirror. But the clamps barely widen enough to sandwich the wing mirror frame. The straps could also be longer; they only just fitted our test car's mirror. Moreover, the image you get is blurred.
Verdict The clamps should open further than they do, and the glass used is of poor quality.
