With the number of in-car gadgets growing each year, the humble 12V cigarette light socket is fast becoming inadequate as a power source. Sat-nav maker TomTom has a solution though, in the shape of its High-Speed Multi-Charger.

The TomTom High-Speed Multi-Charger plugs into a standard 12V socket and turns it into three separate sockets that can all be used at the same time.

As well as a 1.2A USB port for mobile phones or MP3 players, there’s also a 2.1A USB port for fast-charging of high-power device like the iPad and iPhone. Finally, there’s also a 12V pass-through socket for in-car devices like DVD players.

According to TomTom, the crucial difference with the High-Speed Multi-Charger is that while other manufacturers of similar products claim to be able to provide up to 2.1A of power, that power is split between different ports. The High-Speed Multi-Charger, however, provides full power at all times.

The TomTom High Speed Multi-Charger costs £19.99 from Amazon, Dixons, Comet, Halfords and online at www.tomtom.com.
