My membership to the CMC comes free so two years ago I joined the C&CC. Since then I've used the C&CC sites more - not because I prefer them but just because they were where I wanted to be. I still prefer the CMC for travel insurance.

We are members of both but you do need to use the caravan a fair bit to justify it. We need the CAMH as we use their site to store the caravan and only they have sites near to our relatives. Their breakdown cover is also cheaper but on its own would not justify joining.
The C&CC insurance offering is that much cheaper that it justifies membership although they also have sites we want to visit where theirs is preferable to the CAMH.
The breakdowns and insurance cover provided by the clubs are both far wider than you are likely to get elsewhere although value there is a personal thing and some people might regard other businesses as enough for there needs.
When it comes to sites both have a wide spread of these but both have gaps so possibly it depends on where you want to go. The CAMH has a no deposit policy but the sites can often book up early. The C&CC has a very tough deposits system but better availability so you have to choose which suits you. If you can book early the CAMH has the edge, if you book late the C&CC might be better. The CAMH pricing system is far easier to understand and their internet booking service far easier to use.
Both maintain their sites to a high standard but the C&CC a little less so but not enough to worry most people.
The CAMH lets you choose your pitch from the type you have booked mainly awning or non awning but the C&CC pitch you although they discuss what you want and you can refuse a pitch in favour of another if you do not like it and they allow you to book grass or hardstanding.
Both have a large selection of 5 caravan private sites available and in most cases they will both have suitable ones for you.
The continental touring services of both clubs are good with discounts on ferries and specialist insurance and there is nothing to choose between them. We have found their site booking prices are usually cheaper than you can get y just turning up but currency fluctuations might sometimes change this.
Both have advice services for technical and legal problems if you need them.
If you are joining just one then I am afraid you just have to weigh up the pros and cons of each and see what suits you best.l

We are members of both and use the main sites and CL/CS too as it gives the best possible choice of location and availability. Re caravan insurance we always used C&CC but as of 2016 I found CMHC to be cheaper, and Mayday breakdown cover is cheaper than C&CC cover. For Continental touring I have always used CMHC as their website for Travel Insurance is so much simpler in dealing with any temporary or pre-existing medical conditions.

We are currently members of the C&CC and have been for a number of years, use them for both van insurance and there Arrival [RAC] cover.
But things may have to change, my Arrival is up for renewal and looking into it it is going to be cheaper to join both The CMHC and there Mayday service saving about £25.00, its a weird old world.

On that note why dont insurance/breakdown companies look after existing customers who have never claimed

Kev.
Years ago 20 + I looked at the breakdown covers available. To this day I can say honestly the two clubs breakdown schemes offer so much more than the main stream . Read the small print and you will see why ;)
BTW. How's the extension issue B)

And hopefully very nice too, Here in RMK we have what are known as Bedfordshire "Clangers" same as pasties. But E will not agree. Ok if we come down it will be hugging the North coast.
