What is it that makes  every one of our Top 100 Overall Winners so great? There are a number of key factors that always impress you , together with our team of experts. For example, the winning site has to offer a warm welcome, excellent facilities, a good location and so much more, to ensure that all visitors feel as though they have received special attention.

The Overall Winner for 2022 – the adults-only Old Oaks Touring Park in Somerset – does all of these things, together with a great deal more besides.

For starters, it’s in an outstanding location. Siuated in rolling hills close to the extraordinary town of Glastonbury, it’s just a stroll from the otherworldly Tor. The area’s history is even evident in the flora here: the ancient Dog and Magog oak trees sit alongside one of the site’s touring fields.

And what fields they are. Every pitch is a good size and beautifully maintained. Central grassy areas in four of the fields enhance your sense of privacy.

Accommodation and facilities

There’s a variety of accommodation, with touring pitches, glamping cabins, shepherd huts and cedar lodges all available for hire. This year, 16 pitches have been upgraded from super to superior, with a patio, low-smoke fire pit, picnic bench and bird table.

The list of facilities is huge, and includes spotless washrooms, a shop with local produce, bean-to-cup coffee machines, a fishing lake and take-away food delivery. Plus, you’ll find a motorhome service point, two launderettes, fire pit hire, free Wi-Fi, an information room, and much more. For dog-owners, there’s a 400m dog-run, complete with a hot shower for your muddy hound.

The information room has a pool table, 42-inch TV, book exchange and sofas. Other plans for 2022 include, firstly, two electric hot tubs for the glamping accommodation, plus an overhaul of the Wi-Fi and, perhaps most importantly, renewed efforts to reduce plastic waste.
