Manufacturers have confirmed they are to cease production during April because of the Coronavirus outbreak

Swift closure during April

The Hull company says that although its 1,000-plus workforce has remained unaffected by the virus, it has taken the “proactive and responsible decision to suspend manufacturing for the month of April”.

In a statement, the company says, “Demand for leisure vehicles in the immediate future is uncertain along with ever growing restrictions in the supply chain”.

At the moment it plans to reopen the factory on Monday 4 May.

Service to dealers will continue through this period, but at reduced levels.

Swift says the decision to close temporarily “will best protect the long-term future of the organisation”.

Addendum

Following the company's statement on 20 March and the subsequent government announcements on 24 March in which social distancing measures were increased to restrict the spread of coronavirus, Swift has released another statement.

"As a responsible and proactive organisation the health and wellbeing of our employees and customers remains our priority. We had already planned a suspension of our manufacturing activities but in line with the latest Government advice we have taken the decision to suspend all of our business activities with immediate effect. Our planned return to work remains Monday 4th of May, subject to further advice.

"From all of the team at Swift Group we wish everyone well during these difficult and unprecedented times. Above all else, stay safe."

Erwin Hymer Group to close for three weeks

The Government restrictions are to be reviewed in three weeks, and in a statement Erwin Hymer Group said that it expects to give a further update at that time.

A core team will be working remotely during this time.
