THE FIFTH WHEEL Company has launched its new Inos caravan at the Boat and Caravan Show at Birmingham’s NEC. The Inos is the first British-built caravan with a slide-out section, giving the user three square metres of extra living space.

The twin-axle caravan has an island bed, large lounge, kitchen, separate washroom and toilet and that slide-out section certainly makes a difference to the space inside.

Impressed by the space

The entrance door is towards the back of the van. Step inside and you are immediately impressed by the space. Opposite the door is U-shaped seating around a circular table, which makes up into a double bed.

The rear of the van has a second sofa, which will make up into a large single bed. The large offside kitchen has lots of worktop, stainless steel sink and the usual kit.

The walk through to the fixed island bed area has a shower room on one side and a room for the basin and toilet on the other and they both have all the comforts of home. The island bed has two steps up to either side of the bed, so you need to mind your head when getting into bed.

Slide-out section

The slide-out section is operated by the flick of a switch and takes just 15 seconds to slide into position. The van has the Alde wet central heating system, which includes underfloor heating.

The timberless construction is fully insulated with a dense styrofoam used throughout the body construction. The outer skin is GRP and the inner walls are finished GRP. It is built on a BPW chassis.

Weights and price

The Fifth Wheel Company reckons it will be able to build one of these bespoke vans a week and will build it and plate it according to the weight your 4×4 can tow. Its MTPLM is 2700kg, and the price starts at £36,000. Throw in all the options and it will set you back £40,470.

We saw it on the second day of the Boat & Caravan show and the company claims there had been a lot of interest. One lady summed it up with: “Oh, it’s lush”.
