Vauxhall has unveiled the new Grandland, which sits at the top of its range of SUVs.

In the case of the new Vauxhall Grandland, it will come with a choice of hybrid and electric power. Frustratingly, the hybrid model has a low maximum towing figure of 650kg. The electric model is approved for towing caravans and trailers weighing up to 1200kg.

With 213hp and 254lb ft of torque, the Grandland Electric is less powerful than the likes of the Volvo EX30 Twin Motor. However, the Vauxhall’s outputs should make it an SUV for towing with more than enough for strong acceleration pulling a 1200kg caravan (see: matching a car to a caravan for more on this).

The Grandland Electric provides a range of up to 325 miles, depending on the specification. A full recharge from a 7kW home charger should take six hours 45 minutes, while a 0-80% recharge from a 100kW public charger is claimed to take 30 minutes.

A version with a larger battery and a range of up to 435 miles will be available next year.

The new Vauxhall Grandland is 4.65m long, which is 15cm longer than the old model. That promises more interior space than before. Uprated infotainment includes a 16-inch touchscreen display as standard on the top two specification levels.
