We’re getting our latest TV show off to an award-winning start, with our 2016 Tourer of the Year. Watch our Lunar Delta RI review, filmed at the recent Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC Birmingham. Practical Caravan’s Tourer of the Year is rarely a luxury twin-axle, so tune in to The Caravan Channel to find out why we made an exception for this van. Join our Group Editor Alastair Clements in its bright and comfortable lounge, the well-specced kitchen with its snazzy, back-lit lockers, and the impressive and spacious central washroom with a heated towel rail. But arguably the master suite is this caravan’s star feature. This van is unique in having a central washroom plus a transverse island bed, and we think it’s a winning combination – tune in to see it for yourself.
Check out this and all our TV shows on The Caravan Channel, which you’ll find on Freeview 254, Freesat 402 or Sky 261, plus you can watch live online. And with 10 chances to watch, there’s no excuse for missing out! This episode will be broadcast between Monday 30 November and Sunday 13 December 2015, at these times, on these days:
- Monday at 8pm
- Wednesday at 5pm
- Friday at 7pm
- Saturday at 7pm
- Sunday at 7pm
So, what else do we have in store? Well, how about another new-for-2016 caravan review?
And it’s another twin-axle tourer: the Bailey Pegasus Palermo. It introduces a new layout to the range with its fixed bunk beds, which makes it a very family-friendly caravan, giving the kids their own zone with a dinette opposite the bunks that’s perfect for playing games – and it can be shut off from the rest of the van. That dinette converts into a single bed and, as an option, you can add a sixth berth with a fold-out bunk. And in this deceptively spacious van, there’s room for this, as well as a great family washroom, a lovely, large, eight-seat lounge with domestic-style sofas that can be transformed into a super double thanks to Bailey’s new ‘Dream Sleep’ system, and a thoughtfully designed kitchen.
Then, Practical Caravan’s David Motton has another tow car test for us as he puts the Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer through its paces. Here we’re reviewing the four-wheel-drive, diesel-fuelled, 192bhp biturbo variant, and with 295lb ft of torque to call on, on paper it has a lot going for it. That engine proves to be both strong and punchy, if a little too noisy for our liking, and the car’s 1843kg kerbweight is good news in terms of outfit matching. We’re also fans of the well-built interior, however make sure you tune in to The Caravan Channel on Sky 261, Freesat 402 or Freeview 254, or watch live online, to see what reservations Motty has about the Insignia.
Next we’re off on tour, dropping in on Callow Top Holiday Park in Derbyshire, which features in Practical Caravan’s Top 100 Sites Guide 2015. A popular family site with a games room, two swimming pools and an outdoor play area, there’s plenty for the kids to do in all weathers, while adults will be pleased there’s the convenience of an on-site shop, plus a bar and cafe. Well-placed for those who want to explore the natural beauty of the region on foot, it’s also a good base if you want to visit Chatsworth House or spend the day at Alton Towers – tune in and see it for yourself.
You’ll also want to see a best-selling Bailey caravan, so watch our latest TV show for our second review of a tourer from this Bristol-based brand. We’re taking a look at the four-berth Bailey Unicorn Valencia. Unchanged for 2016, outside, heavy-duty steadies, a full complement of Al-Ko kit, external mains, gas and aerial points, and alloy wheels get things off to a strong start. Inside, there’s a greater sense of space than before. The popular fixed nearside double bed, with its thick mattress, is very comfy, and the on-trend full width end washroom has a proper radiator. With a dual-fuel hob, a separate oven and grill, a microwave, two sockets, a cocktail cabinet, a slimline tower fridge and ample worktop space, there’s little to grumble about in the kitchen, too – it’s not hard to see why this van has been such a success. Watch our Bailey Unicorn Valencia review to find out more.
And that’s it for our latest episode on The Caravan Channel. Remember to watch on Freesat 402, Sky 261 or Freeview 254, or watch live online. Enjoy the show and happy touring!
