Airstream in America has added a second model to its more lightweight World Traveler series which is designed to appeal to an international audience at a lower price point than its existing models.
The World Traveler 17RB has a front dinette that converts into a bed, just like the 22RB that is currently on sale at Lowdhams in Nottinghamshire, Airstream’s sole UK dealer.
But while that vehicle has fixed single beds in the back the 17RB, which is 17ft (5.18m) long inside, has a 53in (1.35m) wide transverse double bed.
Like the 22RB, it has a Scandinavian-inspired interior, with dual pane acrylic windows to keep the weight down.
The side kitchen has two extensions, one of which can be removed and stowed away, while the 2.1 cu ft (59-litre) 12V fridge can be supplemented by an optional second fridge under the dinette settee.
As standard, you also get a ducted air conditioning system, and a Truma Combi Eco Plus heating system, while there will be no need to bring the best caravan TV, as the 17RB comes with a 24-inch smart TV.
Potential buyers have a choice of two different upholstery packages, Shoreline and Sagebrush. As optional extras you can have a 200W caravan solar panel, a 2.5KWh lithium battery package, and a microwave.
While there is no indication yet on when or even if the new model will be available in the UK, Airstream says worldwide production of the new vehicle will begin this autumn. Exact pricing is yet to be determined.
Airstream president and CEO Bob Wheeler said, “World Traveler 17RB offer a more compact design that’s ready to travel from day one, expanding the approachable entry points into the Airstream lifestyle.”
See what we made of a previous Airstream when we reviewed it, the Tourer 534 – we thought it was stylish and eye-catching, but could have had a more generous spec.
