This month the Sprite Musketeer TD joins our fleet, writes Stacie Pardoe. Since its launch last September we have had several opportunities to get to know the model. In October 2009’s Live-in Test, the Flower family spent time in the van at the Cherry Hinton Caravan Club Site. They loved the twin dinette layout and the rear bed arrangements. The washroom, living space, price and weight also received praise. [tl:gallery size=180×180]

After their glowing report and positive comments from those on the Practical Caravan team who viewed it, the TD was awarded the ‘Best Caravan for Small Families’ category in our 2009 Awards. It ticked all the boxes: its MTPLM of 1291kg makes it light enough to tow with a family car, it doesn’t cost the earth and it is a practical and pleasant van to live in.

The TD’s selling point is the versatility of the rear dinette. During the day the second dinette gives parents and kids separate living spaces. At night this area can be turned into a double bed, two single bunks, or a double bed with a single bunk above. It’s a flexible arrangement that’s ideal for families of four or five.

I can’t wait to try it out for myself, which I  am doing over Easter. I’m taking the family for a week’s trip to The Orchards Holiday Park on the Isle of Wight. The layout will be ideal for our two boys. Six-year-old Liam will love the top bunk, while teenager Josh will revel in having a double bed to himself. I will let you know how our trip to the island goes next month and how we fare in the TD.
