Some 72% of caravanners still expect to be able to tour this season, with 84% expecting to do so in the next 12 months, a survey by Ripe Insurance has found out this week.

However, some 62% of the 257 caravan owners the company interviewed say they are worried about the impact the current Coronavirus crisis will have on the industry.

Ripe Insurance reckons that if the owners of the 550,000 caravans currently in the UK cancels just one trip this year, that could hit the caravan parks industry by nearly £89 million.

As a result, almost half of those surveyed (45%) say they have actively supported caravan park owners at this time, either by booking sites for next year or by sharing messages via social media.

Some 13% are also concerned about their caravans being damaged or broken into because they have not been able to visit them.

Ripe Insurance managing director John Woosey said, “The optimism shown in these figures is truly admirable, however, it seems unlikely that UK lockdown will be lifted anytime soon. What’s important, therefore, is that the community rallies around during these strange and difficult times.”

Ripe Insurance is currently offering a discounts of up to 50% for new insurance policies.
