But while some places tolerate dogs, we wanted to highlight those sites that offer your pooches a truly warm welcome with facilities to match. So, whether it’s dog walks or pet washing facilities, such as dog showers and washrooms, we’ve got it covered.
Trethem Mill Touring Park, Cornwall
Extending over 12 acres, half of which is dedicated to its dog walk and recreation area, this site on the Roseland Peninsula is perfect for walkers hoping to follow the South West Coast Path. The dog walk and nature meadow are popular with pets and owners alike.
Appledore Park, Devon
This family-run campsite covers eight acres, and lies just to the north of Dartmoor. Three dogs per pitch are welcome at this dog-friendly site and you’ll love the new dog shower after those lengthy walks across the moor.
Ross Park, Devon
With around 20 of its 32 acres made up of green spaces, your best friends will love this site which has a four-acre exercise field and a cherry orchard where dogs can come off their leads and explore. They are also welcome in the tropical conservatory, which is attached to the restaurant.
Beech Croft Farm, Derbyshire
Halfway between Buxton and Bakewell, in the heart of the Peak District National Park, is this well-run campsite – great for families, especially with dogs. There’s a dog exercise area and you can wash muddy paws in the Boot, Bike and Dog wash (a cold water tap outside the facilities).
Back of Beyond, Dorset
Set in 30 acres of Dorset countryside that includes woods, heathland, lakes and a river, the site provides natural habitats for wildlife – and its four legged guests. There’s a large dog walking area in the park and 18 acres of private woodland where you can let them explore off the lead. Afterwards give them a hot shower at the dog wash station. Dog walking and kennelling services are available on request.
Ballyness Caravan Park, Northern Ireland
With its three wildlife ponds and woodland areas, Ballyness is a natural choice for dog lovers who will delight in the eight-acre dog walk, where they can exercise their pooches to their heart’s content.
Love2Stay certainly has the wow factor, including a wonderful natural swimming pool, recreational fishing lake and den building and woodland hideout. Dogs are welcome on site and there is a dog shower room. The surrounding area has plenty of dog-friendly walks, several of which lead to dog-friendly pubs.
Old Oaks, Glastonbury, Somerset
A beautiful site less than two miles from the pubs and restaurants of Glastonbury, Old Oaks is great for those travelling with pets and has a 300m secure dog-exercise area. There’s also a dog shower with hot water and free shampoo and a dedicated washing machine and dryer for your dog bedding and blankets. The site offers a range of doggy cream ice, home-baked treats and other locally sourced food.
Red Kite Touring, Wales
Dogs will love the natural feel to this park, which has coarse fishing available in the largest of its nature ponds, and there are wildflower areas and lawns alongside the gravel hardstanding pitches. Set in 20 acres the park has a special dog walking area, with a separate fenced off training area, and the added benefit of a dog wash area.
Concierge Camping, West Sussex
Award-winning luxury is the order of the day at this modern and stylish site in the West Sussex countryside. Dogs are welcome on site – up to three per pitch – and there are many fantastic walks just a short distance away; a footpath and dog walking area are directly accessible from the park.
