NOBODY DRIVES FURTHER than Mondeo man. That’s the finding of research by Warranty Direct.

The company looked at data on the 50,000 cars on its books, aged between three and 10 years old. It found that Ford Mondeo drivers clock up an average of 15,101 miles each year.

Of course, plenty of company car drivers rack up far higher totals than that, but over 15,000 miles is a long way for a private owner.

The other high-mileage cars in the survey are mostly larger models as you might expect. The Volvo S80 is in second spot, being driven 14,570 miles on average. In third place, the Volkswagen Passat covers 14,440 miles.

Beneath the headline figures about which cars are driven furthest, Warranty Direct’s data shows some interesting data as to how often cars go wrong and how much they cost to fix. Just 15% of Mondeos need a warranty claim each year, making the Ford the most reliable car among the 10 highest mileage models.

The Volkswagen Passat fares less well. Just under half of Warranty Direct’s Passat owners make a claim each year. The most expensive Passat repair cost £2224.09.
