Both Lunar Caravans’ eponymous tourers and the Preston manufacturer’s budget Venus brand continue fundamentally unchanged for 2016, albeit with new graphics and interior finishes across the board, but the big news comes from a raft of new layouts, as revealed at the 2016 launch event at scenic Farington Lodge Hotel in Lancashire.
Leading the line is the popular transverse island bed, end washroom floorplan, which appears in the new Venus 570/4, along with the Lunar Quasar 574 and Lunar Lexon 560. There’s another transverse island bed in the Delta RI, but this twin-axle range-topper features a large central washroom rather than the end washroom of its Delta TI sibling.
Further new additions are restricted to the Lexon line, which gains the 570 with fixed twin beds and an end washroom, plus the corner-washroom 580 with fixed bunks and a side dinette. Making way for the new models are the Quasar 525 and 564, the Lexon 540 and 590, plus the traditionalist Delta RS with its fixed nearside double bed.
There have also been plenty of spec changes. The Venus was overhauled significantly last year, so inevitably it continues with minimal alterations, but there is new ‘Daniek’ oatmeal fabric and carpets to replace last year’s distinctive Dove Grey, plus a glamorous bowl sink and chrome mixer tap in the washroom. The lounge table is taller, to better integrate with the front chest, and there are LED spotlights plus improved kitchen task lighting and some natty multi-spoke wheels for the optional Plus Pack.
Like the Venus, the Quasar gets a tamper-proof CRiS label and a bowl sink for the washroom, with further additions including smart new alloy wheels, a one-piece door and a larger shower for end-washroom models. Perhaps the most dramatic alteration is the arrival of the ‘Sky-View’ rooflight, as featured in last year’s Clubman and Delta, while the new ‘Metropole’ trim feels pleasingly modern and there is now dimmable LED ceiling lighting and a snazzy kitchen splashback, plus smart banded cream and timber-effect locker doors.
The Lexon also gains the ‘Sky-View’ roof, this time with LED perimeter lighting, and there’s a dramatic new red-and-grey interior colour scheme with a glitzy black sink and cream switches, along with plenty of new lighting options.
To keep their status at the top of the Lunar range, the Clubman and twin-axle Delta gain a larger 600x1500mm version of the ‘Sky-View’ rooflight, plus a plusher-feeling washroom with mosaic-effect shower. Behind the stylish new alloy wheels there’s Al-Ko’s latest self-adjusting braking system, too.
