OUR FORD MONDEO has been on the fleet since July and has impressed us all. In that time, among other assignments, it scooped a Tow test win and towed to France without a grumble. Little wonder it’s such a popular towcar with caravanners.
Pulling our Swift Challenger 535 to the New Forest a few months ago, the Mondeo never felt short of power, but for those wanting a bit more ooomph, car tuners Superchips is offering BHP upgrades on 2.0-litre 163hp engines across the Ford range.
The Galaxy, Kuga, Mondeo and S-Max models produced after March 2010 can all be upgraded.
Power increases of up to 22bhp at 3301rpm are achievable and the work is carried out by trained technicians at one of 80 Superchips branches nationwide.
Extra grunt for caravanners
All the Ford models mentioned above are strong diesel towcars and a 65 lb.ft increase in torque after a Superchips ECU remapping will give caravanners extra grunt low down the revs.
The conversion is a simple job and is covered by a full customer service guarantee, plus a 12-month or 30,000 mile supplementary full vehicle warranty.
At £399 for the service, this quick ECU upgrade is a viable alternative to upgrading the towcar itself.
