Extra large super pitches at Hillside

One of the most exciting and fun things about caravanning is being able to explore new destinations with ease. After all, you have your home-on-wheels with you – all you need to do is head to pastures new, pitch up at a campsite and enjoy the local area.

But there are so many caravan parks out there, it can be tricky to find one that offers that fantastic combination of great facilities, a wonderful location and the chance to get back to nature.

That’s why we at Practical Caravan think you’ll love Hillside Caravan Park, in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire, so much. It recently took the winner of best site in the North-East in our prestigious Top 100 2025 Sites Guide, which is voted for by our readers, who clearly love it too.

Fully serviced pitches

Fantastic facilities & more

So what is it that’s so special about Hillside for those with a caravan or motorhome? For starters, there are 50 fully serviced and gravel hardstanding pitches across the nine-acre site, all of which have electric and fresh-water hook-up, a TV aerial connection and grey-water drainage.

And don’t worry if you’ve got a big tourer – 15 of these pitches are extra-large, so you’ll be able to site your caravan with ease. You could even choose to take advantage of the fantastic pitch-and-store service – keep your caravan in storage during the year, and it will be pitched on site whenever you’re ready to take your break away.

Of course, that’s not all there is to enjoy at Hillside Caravan Park. You can relax in comfort at the on-site coffee lounge, which also has free Wi-Fi, and there’s a small shop if you want to pick up those essential supplies.

You and your dog will be in your element here – there’s 100 acres of beautiful natural space to stroll in, featuring specific dog-walking areas adjoining the site, and there’s also a dog wash and drying facility. Those who love angling are also well catered for, thanks to the small onsite fishing lake, and there are numerous other lakes close by.

A focus on sustainability is right at the heart of Hillside Caravan Park. Careful landscaping ensures that wildlife is in its element here, eco-friendly cleaning products are used, and 98 solar panels help power the facilities. Unsurprisingly, the site has won a prestigious David Bellamy Gold award for the past few years.

But what if you’d like to travel with friends or family who don’t have their own caravan or motorhome? There’s plenty for them at Hillside, too: the six luxury camping pods are ideal for those who fancy glamping, thanks to their comfortable beds and shower room, and a self-catering option – the Granary holiday cottage – is also on site.

And there’s lots to keep youngsters occupied at Hillside, including an attractive play area with swings and a roundabout, and a large grass amenity area for ball games.

As for the local area: there’s so much to do here that you won’t want to leave. This is James Herriot country – Hillside Caravan Park is just four miles from Thirsk, home to the World of James Herriot museum, as well as filming location of popular TV series The Yorkshire Vet – and this is also the perfect place to go walking, thanks to its close proximity to the North York Moors.

So what are you waiting for? Hillside Caravan Park is ready to welcome you – visit this summer and enjoy the very best facilities, hospitality and local attractions.
