TOP100 REGULAR Bron Derw scooped top honours for its Certified Location – five-pitch sites – at the Caravan Club’s annual CL awards.

The House of Commons Members’ Dining Room was the setting for the ceremony held on 19 November 2012 and presided over by David Amess MP for Southend West.

The CL, in Llanrwst, Snowdonia, was voted the best by the Caravan Club’s one million members, fighting off competition from 2,500 small, privately owned, informal sites that make up the Club’s CL network.

Bron Derw owners John and Beryl Edwards received their award from John Whittingdale MP, chairman of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee. Also receiving awards were Philip and Claire Hindmoor in second place for their Crofton Hall CL in Thursby, Carlisle, and Glynn and Val Wiggins for their Old Granary CL in York.

The CL (above) at Bron Derw ( is open all year and won accolades for John and Beryl Edwards in 2010. Bron Derw was initially a dairy farm before taking in caravans for storage. An architect paid for the storage of his caravan by drawing up plans for a site. Since then, the site business has gone from strength to strength. The CL has hardstandings and, as well as the requisite fresh water supply and waste disposal services, provides hook-up, digital TV and Wi-Fi connections and a heated washblock.

Philip and Claire Hindmore have been running Crofton Hall CL (below) since 2009. The CL is set within the old estate walls of Crofton Hall and each pitch has power and water supply. A washblock is located just outside the walled garden and there is a toy and book library. The CL’s website,, helpfully describes the aspect of each pitch, so you can pick the one you want subject to availability.

Glynn and Val Wiggins have run Old Granary CL

site, which is open from March to November, has the added attraction of

various animals, which include Nubian goats, alpacas, donkeys and

rare-breed pigs as well as horses and ponies.
