Verdict
This Range Rover runs the Audi Q7 a close race as the ideal towcar for the well-heeled.
Pros
Cabin space and boot space are very good
The engine pulls well
Cons
It’s expensive
Although it didn’t go home with any medals at Practical Caravan’s 2008 Tow Car Awards, the Range Rover Sport was still a highly impressive tow car.

Towing
The 3.6-litre engine is smooth and refined, and strong enough to pull car and caravan from 30-60mph in just 11 seconds.
In spite of the heaviest kerbweight of any car tested in our Tow Car Awards testing, the Sport stopped as well as it went, taking just 10.88 metres to stop from 30mph.
Through the lane-change test, the steering felt a bit light compared with the Audi Q7. Even so, it swerved through the cones with less roll than the Discovery.
Space
Inside the cabin, five can stretch out in comfort. There’s plenty of room for bags, too: every item of luggage but the Aquaroll fit in.
Running Costs
Purchase price and running costs are steep, but What Car? predicts the Sport will be worth 50% of its original price in three years.
