This may not be our favourite Skoda Superb, but it is still a fine family tow car.

Cons

The diesel engine is too noisy

We are big fans of the Skoda Superb at Practical Caravan. However, we think models with the latest generation common-rail diesels are worth choosing over this one with its old-tech engine. The 2.0-litre PD unit is just too noisy when worked hard.

Space is one of the Skoda’s biggest selling points

Towing

The Superb tows well. Through the lane-change test it remained in charge of the caravan, and the strong brakes did a good job of slowing the outfit in an emergency stop. The handbrake needed a firm pull before it would the outfit still, however, and some rivals we’ve tested have posted quicker 30-60mph acceleration times.

Everyday Driving

Despite the engine being loud under load, overall we think the Superb is a refined car, with minimal wind and road noise. It’s quiet and comfortable on long journeys, with a good driving position and plenty of room.

Space

Space is one of the Skoda’s biggest selling points. The cabin is simply huge, especially in the rear seats. You could pay three times the price for a luxury saloon and get no more room.
