Akebar Park in North Yorkshire was first developed as a holiday park in the 1970s. Since then it has expanded to become one of the most popular sites in the region, and a regular in our Top 100 Sites Guide.

It’s also undergone extensive redevelopment over the past few years, with new additions and upgrades including the installation of Wi-Fi, the creation of a dog-exercise area, new electric hook-ups and much more besides.

Other facilities that you’ll find here are a shop stocking the basics, and a fantastic pub – The Friar’s Head – at the entrance to the park. Keen golfers can also make use of the course and driving range right alongside the site.

Here's what you said when voting for the Top 100 Sites Guide:

“This campsite had a lovely feel to it that we noticed as soon as we arrived. The staff were brilliant and the park was clean and tidy. It is also in a fantastic location for visiting surrounding landmarks.”

“In a beautiful area, so clean and well maintained with great facilities including golf courses and a driving range. The Friar’s Head is a lovely pub that serves a variety of delicious meals. Real effort has been made and it shows.”

“It’s clean and tidy and there are excellent catering facilities at The Friar’s Head. The site’s 18-hole golf course has reasonable fees and the new play area is very good.”
