The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has provided further guidance after a warning was issued to caravanners, urging them to check their gas hobs after it was found that certain models could be fitted with a connector that is at risk of failing, potentially leading to a gas leak or fire.

It was found that some gas hobs could fail in certain circumstances, regardless of whether in use or not.

Now, caravanners are being told to check the model number of their gas hob as soon as possible, which can be located in either the instruction manual or on the rating label beneath the hob.

The affected brands (see the list below) have been working with the OPSS to launch a corrective action programme to ensure customers are alerted to the safety risk.

The issue is affecting certain gas hobs from the following brands:

  • Apelson – 0800 041 8839
  • Belling / Stoves – 0800 041 8831
  • Caple – 0800 041 8842
  • Comfee – 0800 046 5361
  • Cooke & Lewis – 0800 041 8821
  • Cookology – 0800 208 1027
  • Electriq – 0800 041 8843
  • KitchenPlus – 0800 046 5373
  • Russell Hobbs – 0800 046 5396
  • Statesman – 0800 041 8841
  • Swan – 0800 208 1029

Caravanners with an affected appliance have been asked to get in touch with the appropriate phone number (see the freephone contact details above) with their model number to hand to arrange a free inspection and repair from a Gas Safe registered engineer. The lines are operating from 8am – 6pm BST, seven days a week. You can also enter your details at https://gashobsrepair.mktpoint.com/.

Anyone with an affected appliance with Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been told to immediately disconnect it from the LPG cylinder too.

If you’re unsure of the brand of your model, the OPSS has also advised contacting them straight away on 0800 208 1058.
