It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Steve Parkes, moderator of the Practical Caravan Forum for many years and known to all contributors as Parksy. The forum became a safe, happy and informative place because of his leadership and guidance.
A Black Country man who was true to his roots, he enjoyed caravanning to the full and continued undaunted by physical ill health and setbacks. He was a true gentleman.
Honesty, fairness and compassion were among his best assets. His moderating skills were legendary: unbiased, impartial, sensible, absolutely fair, no favouritism and always even-handed. He could defuse the most complicated issues.
Those of us who had the privilege of caravanning with him remember a kind, gentle, down-to-earth man. His softly spoken humour was a delight.
Never partisan, he became an “honorary Woosie”, a group of friends which grew out of banter on the forum. He will be greatly missed by his Woosie friends, who enjoyed his company at 12 years of Woosiefests around the UK. The world is a poorer place for his loss.
On behalf of The Woosies, and all who value the Practical Caravan Forum, thanks for everything, Parksy.
