WE TOLD YOU back in September that Jeep had announced new engines for its Patriot model at the Paris Motor Show, and now you can have one on your drive.

The new 2.2-litre Mercedes-sourced diesel CRD engine is on sale and gives an improved 163hp, while torque is up by 23lb.ft to 236lb.ft.

Four trim levels

There are four trim levels to be paired with the diesel engine, namely Sport, Sport+, Limited and the top-of-the-range Overland. All offer more standard kit than before.

It isn’t surprising that the Patriot’s 0-60mph dash has reduced to 9.7 seconds, but what is interesting is that both its kerbweight and braked towing limit have increased.

The 2.2-litre diesel now weighs in at 1725kg, with its towing ability increased from 1500kg to a 2000kg maximum.

Six-speed ’box

Even with a six-speed manual gearbox, unfortunately, the new diesel still only manages 42mpg and emits 172 g/km CO2 which isn’t a dramatic step forward in today’s green-conscious market.

The price might push that to the back of your mind, though, with a brand new diesel Sport costing from £17,495 and the most expensive Overland trim from £21,995.
