Swift’s flirtation with wide vans started 18 months ago with the Sprite Super – and that range is extended this year, with the addition of a new transverse-island-bed model.
But having introduced three Elegance Grande models last season, this year the company has launched 8ft-wide sub-ranges for both Challenger and Eccles models, and introduced a layout not previously available in either.
The Sprite Super Quattro EB features a midships washroom with a central handbasin and mirror, and a nearside door that leads to the rear bedroom with transverse bed. Along with two bedside tables (rather than wardrobes), a dresser on the rear nearside corner and a large externally accessible storage area under the bed, this room also has a striking fabric panel around the window.
Sprite overall – both the conventional eight-strong range and the three Sprite Supers – has been given new graphics this season, with decal strips in silver and gold.
Inside, a new Langholme upholstery scheme has oatmeal backrests and cushions, plaid scatter cushions, and copper-coloured curtains – which in the Sprite Super Quattro EB, match the back window panel.
There’s the same Aralie Sen mid-tone woodgrain, although work surfaces are now grey.
X marks the spot
The new 8ft-wide Challenger X and Eccles X ranges feature an extra layout, the four-berth 850, with an L-shaped lounge.
The washroom in this twin-axle is spread across the centre of the van, while the in-line island-bed at the rear has a wardrobe either side.
One other twin-axle, the 835, and two single-axles, the 865 and the 880, complete the ranges. All are four-berths.
The 835 has a parallel front lounge and a rear transverse-island-bed, with kitchen and washroom across the middle. The 880 has a transverse-island-bed with end-washroom, while the 865 has fixed single beds and an end-washroom.
Go for the Eccles and Eccles X and you get the same Saturn soft furnishing scheme, in gold and black, and the dark Zabrano honey-toned woodgrain that Swift introduced to celebrate Eccles’ centenary last year.
Challenger and Challenger X, meanwhile, feature Glacie soft furnishing with purple hues in the scatter cushions. Alde heating now comes as standard in both ranges.
Elegance as ever
For 2020 the standard Elegance range is seven-strong. There are now only two twin-axle models – the 645 and 650 – as the 635 has been discontinued.
In Elegance Grande, the 655 has been replaced by the new 850 layout, just as in the Challenger X and Eccles X ranges. Meanwhile the 635 and 645 have become, respectively, the 835 and 845.
Darwin soft furnishings, with natural tones and contrasting textures, are standard, but you can also go for the all-leather option.
Both ranges are now built on Smart 3, the third generation of Swift’s timberless bodyshell construction process, so they include a composite floor with a dual-density core made from recycled plastic.
Swift offers a lifetime water-ingress warranty, subject to terms and conditions, on Elegance and Elegance Grande.
