IT’S BEEN A BUSY month for our VW Tiguan.

The towing duties included pulling a lovely Lunar to Northumbria and back, taking our long-term Swift Challenger to be readied for our reader rally, and finally towing the 450-mile round trip to Stowford Farm in Devon itself.

Deputy editor Niall was particularly impressed by the figures in front of him on the journey down to Devon, which showed 38.2mpg with 1285kgs of Swift caravan on the back.

Unfortunately, the trip to our reader rally also meant some repair work was needed. Devon’s country lanes aren’t famed for their width, and all it took was a passing van and a protruding branch for the mirror glass to pop out and smash on the road.

A quick trip to the local VW dealer later, and the problem was sorted. Luckily the mirror glass had simply come away from the housing, meaning the replacement part could be slotted in and only set us back £34.

The sturdy Tiguan is always a popular choice among the team. Its upright driving position is comfortable, the 168bhp diesel engine is strong at low revs and there’s four-wheel drive if your pitch is on the damp side.

It’s so popular, in fact, that our friends at WhatCar? have requested it for their own towing duties later this month. You’ll here more about how it gets on in a coming issue.
