Last night at The Sculpture Gallery, Woburn Abbey, we revealed the winners of our Tow Car Awards 2015.
Now in its ninth year and with over 400 cars having been put through the rigours of the Awards testing to date, this is still the best point of reference for consumers considering what tow car to buy, whether you’re looking to tow a trailer tent, a micro caravan, a family van, a twin-axle tourer, or anything else. The combined forces of Practical Caravan, What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club, with sterling support from Swift, Witter, Al-Ko and Milenco, ensure the comprehensive testing process delivers trustworthy results buyers can rely on.
The well-attended ceremony, hosted by Practical Caravan’s Group Editor Alastair Clements and Henry Hope-Frost saw winners crowned in five weight categories, plus three extra prizes given out, before 2015’s overall winner was announced.
In the Up to 1400kg class, the Škoda Octavia Hatch 2.0 TDI CR 150PS SE Business scooped the top prize, while in the 1400-1549kg category, top honours went to the Volkswagen Passat Estate 2.0 TDI BMT 150PS SE Business DSG.
Then it was the turn of the Mazda CX-5 2.2D 175PS AWD Sport Nav to shine, as it won the 1550-1699kg class, before there was a second win of the night for the VW Passat, as the 2.0 BiTDI SCR BMT 4Motion GT DSG model triumphed in the 1700-1899kg category. And last but not least, in our heavyweight, 1900kg+ class, the Land Rover Discovery SE Tech finished on top.
Meanwhile, the 2015 award for Best Petrol Tow Car went to the Ford Mondeo 1.5T EcoBoost 160PS Titanium 5dr, the Citroën C4 Cactus BlueHDi 100 Feel took the 2015 Best Ultralight Tow Car gong and this year’s Green Award went to the Volvo V40 Cross Country D4 Lux Nav Geartronic.
Finally, it was time to reveal the overall winner for 2015. And for an unprecedented third time in the history of the Tow Car Awards, our best tow car was the Volkswagen Passat, in 2.0 TDI BMT 150PS SE Business DSG guise.
“In terms of towing ability, the VW Passat is outstanding,” said Practical Caravan’s Tow Car Editor David Motton, adding, “the VW does just about everything well.”
This year, 37 cars were put through their paces during the test week in April, held at MIRA, to determine our winners.
