The previous generation of Range Rover is the ‘least reliable’ used car you can buy, according to extended warranty provider Warrantywise.
Buying one of the best used tow cars provides a budget-friendly way of getting a stable, practical and reliable towing vehicle, but you’ll want to ensure you choose the right one for the job.
Comparing reliability rates across its 131,000 policies and focusing on cars less than 10 years old, the Land Rover Range Rover topped Warrantywise’s list of cars to avoid if you want trouble-free driving.
The company has compiled a Reliability Index, based on number of faults and average cost of repairs. The lower the Index number, the worse the score. The Range Rover scored 20.2, with the highest single bill for repairing a Range Rover running to £23,890. Another Land Rover, the Range Rover Sport, finished third on 23.1.
Other likely tow cars in Warrantywise’s most unreliable 10 vehicles include the Porsche Cayenne in sixth place (scoring 24.9), the Audi Q7 in seventh (25.7), and the Mazda CX-5 in ninth (29.6).
With the exception of the Mazda, the 10 least reliable cars all come from premium brands.
Warrantywise CEO Lawrence Whittaker said: “The Reliability Index is extremely revealing of how luxury cars, which may seem reliable because of the price tags, aren’t always so. Warrantywise plans to publish a list of the 10 most reliable vehicles at a later date.”
