You won’t go unnoticed in a Volkswagen ID.Buzz. With its striking design, harking back to the iconic T2 campervan, be prepared to get into conversation with curious strangers wherever you go. But despite the campervan appearance, the ID.Buzz is actually an MPV – there will be a camper version, but not until 2025.

As part of Volkswagen’s ID family of models, the Buzz is fully electric, with a range of up to 258 miles.

With a low towing limit of 1000kg, the ID.Buzz is a suitable match for ultra-light caravans such as a Freedom or a Go-Pod, rather than a larger family-sized tourer.

But what the ID.Buzz can tow, it should tow well. For one thing, it weighs 2.5 tonnes, so it ought to be very stable. The VW is brisk rather than quick for an electric car, but there’s enough performance to comfortably handle a loaded vehicle and a small caravan.

Inside, there’s lots of space for five people and their luggage, and you’ll find plenty of clever design touches, too.

A longer-wheelbase model, with seven seats and a bigger battery, will arrive in late 2023, and there will also be a high-performance four-wheel-drive car by the end of 2024. Fingers crossed, these versions will be approved to tow heavier tourers.
