THE VW AMAROK is an exciting addition to the pick-up market, which up until now has been ruled by Japanese models including the Mitsubishi L200 and Nissan Navara.

The German firm has now released full price and specification details, with prices starting from just £16,995.

We spoke to the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles representatives on their Boat & Caravan Show stand at the NEC Birmingham, and you didn’t need a salesman to convince you the new model looks the part.

Plenty of space

It not only boasts the largest interior space in its class, but also the largest cargo hold, making it just as useful on the building site as it is doing the weekly shop. It’ll tow 2800kg, too, opening up a wide range of options for caravanners.

The Amarok will be sold in three trim levels, the entry-level Startline, mid-range Trendline and range-topping Highline – with prices starting at £16,995, £18,995 and £21,575 respectively.

Two diesel engines are on offer. A 122hp 2.0-litre version is available only on the Startline trim, while a more powerful 163hp 2.0-litre can be fitted to any of the range.

A thorough poke around at the Boat & Caravan Show can’t determine how the Amarok drives, however. Check back here and in future issues of Practical Caravan for further reports.
