In late 2023, I reviewed the Campmaster Duo, Camperlands’ first fully fledged caravan – by which I meant a solid-roof trailer you could sleep in, with a kitchen on the inside.

I liked it as a budget-price caravan that could be suitable for customers with a hybrid or a totally electric tow car, who might be limited by weight.

This year, the Manchester-based camping accessories brand has introduced a new model, the Campmaster Duo CE, now with a collapsible bed and extra tables. I went along to Camperlands to take a look.

Pitch and set-up

As with the original Campmaster, the new CE runs on a Knott chassis, with a Knott braking system, and shock absorbers. This is not that different from the Al-Ko system. The 30mm of Styrodur insulation in the side walls is also not too far off what you might find in a conventional type of caravan.

One advantage of the Knott chassis is that it is slightly higher than the Al-Ko chassis, making for better clearance.

This makes it all the more important that you have an entrance step. Whereas this came as standard on the first model, it is now only included in an optional package. This costs £249, and might be worth going for, because it also includes a glass fibre storage box on the A-frame (or a double bike rack), a 95Ah leisure battery, a mains lead and a rear canopy from caravan awning manufacturer Isabella.

The Campmaster Duo CE retains its rather boxy shape, but I think this is enlivened by eye-catching exterior graphics.

Lounge in the Campmaster Duo CE

The two main changes in the small caravan come in the living area. Whereas before, there was a permanent double bed to sit on (complete with an optional large cushion backrest), the bed now folds back to make a surprisingly comfortable settee. This is an arrangement that anyone familiar with a campervan should be used to.

There is still no full table as such, but there are three tabletops stored in the wardrobe by the door, which you can bring out to provide extra temporary surfaces.

One of these creates an extension to the kitchen, but could also be used as a surface to dine on, for somebody sitting at the right end of the settee.

The second clips under the blind cassette in the window to form an eating surface there. The third clips to the middle of the settee itself, to form a coffee table. I reckon you would be unlikely to have all three out at the same time, but you have to make sure you fit the right surface to the right position, because each of them has been specifically designed to go in that spot.

I like how plenty of daylight comes in through the windows, while at night you benefit from a large LED in the ceiling and a striplight above the mirrors on the side.

The electric heater mounted on the side of the cupboard is more effective than you might imagine: I found it only took 10 minutes or so to get things comfortable. It occupies a mains socket, but there is another one free for personal use.

Kitchen in the Campmaster Duo CE

The kitchen includes a cold-water sink (supplied by a tank immediately below), an induction hob and a Dometic 12V and mains coolbox, stored on the floor.

Unlike the earlier model, the induction hob now comes as standard. But to power it, you have to switch the coolbox to 12V and trail the cable down to the plug there. If you attach the extension to this worktop, the cable would trail in front.

Washroom in the Campmaster Duo CE

There is no washroom in this caravan, but four mirrors are lined up under a striplight, which you could use in combination with the sink.

The wardrobe by the door has enough room to store a Porta Potti.

Sleeping in the Campmaster Duo CE

A good sleeping setup will always be an important trait of the best caravans. Here, the bed is easy to slide out, but to secure it, you need to retrieve three slats stored below the bed and put them into position across the extension.

In the morning, you slide the bed back. Fully retracted, there is still enough room behind the backrest to store your bedding.

Storage in the Campmaster Duo CE

There are two main storage areas – one underneath the bed, which can be accessed externally and internally.

The large wardrobe has a shelf that folds back, although the battery rests at the base. Some of this space would be taken up with a Porta Potti if you took one with you, but there is a locker above this as well.

In the kitchen, there is one locker and two racks above the sink, and a cupboard below – partly taken up by the water tank. There is also a shelf above the striplight.

If you go for the optional package, you also get that locker on the A-frame.

Alternatives to consider

The Capsule Mini R was a winner at the Practical Caravan Awards 2025, with its bright colours, well designed finish and light weight combining with its excellent value to impress our judging panel. Another option to consider is the Freedom Wayfarer Quad – the budget-priced four-berth has comfortable beds and a light weight that could appeal if you want more sleeping space in your tourer.
