THERE ARE BETTER towcars than the Peugeot 207 SW HDi 110, but you’ll struggle to find a greener one.
Carbon dioxide emissions of 131g/km are extremely low, and will place the Peugeot in Band E when the road-tax regime is shaken up in April 2009. That means an annual bill of just £110.
Improving air quality
Among this year’s test cars the Peugeot’s official combined figure of 56.4mpg is bettered only by a handful of cars. However, what really bolsters the Peugeot’s credentials is the particulate trap to capture sooty emissions. So the 207 SW will help tackle climate change and make a worthwhile difference to the air you breathe.
The Peugeot has a respectable 30-60mph time of 23.7 seconds. Partly thanks to some well-chosen gear ratios, the car held 60mph in a headwind in top gear.
Stability at speed and through the lane-change test was good, too – better than the Fabia Estate, though not a match for the Golf or Focus.
We say
Towing: 3/5
Solo: 4/5
Practicality: 3/5
Buying & owning: 4/5
Verdict: 4/5. Clean, green and a stable towcar, too.
