The Elddis Avanté has become one of the most popular Elddis models with caravanners wanting a vast range of layouts, and a decent price and specification.

The Avanté has seen changes over its history, some possibly not as good as many hoped, but over recent years, it’s a line-up that impresses in both build and style.

The 462 from 2008 is an end-washroom two-berth offering a large front lounge area, with a side dresser and kitchen opposite.

It also provides plenty of storage for a couple taking a long tour, with acres of overhead lockers and lots of other storage capacity, especially in the washroom at the rear.

The specification includes a BPW chassis, alloy wheels, an oven and a microwave, plus a fridge and blown-air heating.

So the Avanté Club range offers a good package, especially after its major makeover in 2008.

Model history

The Avanté range was originally introduced for the 2001 season, from the then-new Elddis factory, and was launched as a competitor to Bailey’s Ranger, although the Avanté would become more highly specified as time went on, therefore raising its price.

The 462, which was available from 2008, when it replaced the 482, became a firm favourite as a dealer special.

For that year, the Avanté was known as Avanté Club, but the Club name was dropped for 2009.

The line-up of nine models for 2008 included two twin-axle layouts with fixed beds.

The 2008 range had new front and rear ABS panels, an extra two inches of body width, and new graphics and alloys.

The interiors were given a makeover and specification upgrades included a new microwave, an oven and a Thetford fridge, plus new wood grain and lighting, and an Omnivent extractor fan, among a host of other improvements.

The washrooms were also improved, with a circular shower and the latest Thetford electric-flush toilet.

In 2008, the Avanté Club was a completely new range of tourers. Here, we show you what to look for a decade after it launched, if you are browsing the used caravans for sale pages.

Buyer’s checklist

  • Check the back panel for possible problems with damp
  • Check the general condition of floor area
  • Check that the Thetford fridge is in working order
  • Check the GRP sides for fading
  • Check the decals for crazing
  • Check the cupboard doors for looseness
  • Check the furniture edging isn’t coming away
  • Check the mattress on fixed beds
  • Check the sofa bases for loss of support

What to pay?

Looking online, £7195 seemed to be a fairly consistent price at dealers, but we did find one at £6250.

That was the exception, however, and we reckon a private sale would fetch more than this.

So look at £7195 to £7395 as an average price, and count anything less as a giveaway that it will need careful checking prior to purchase.

Alternatives

We would look out for these two end-washroom two-berths:

  • a 2006 Fleetwood Colchester 480 at £7195
  • a 2007 Knaus StarClass 470 at £6995

Verdict

‘Our’ 462 seemed to have weathered well, but we did find peeling veneer by the side dresser.

With their specification, 2008 Elddis Avanté Club caravans for sale today offer good value – although no dual-fuel hob is fitted – and they provide lots of living space and storage.

Check the prices and see if you can get a good deal, like an awning thrown in.

Overall, the Elddis Avanté Club is a good range, but check for cracks in the ABS panels.
