With the growing popularity of eight-foot-wide tourers over the past 10 years, it’s not surprising that Bailey also decided to enter this sector, after buyers requested that
the company produce a luxurious range in an eight-foot-wide body.

So Bailey didn’t rush into this sector, but knew that it had to respond to market changes and produce eight foot wide caravans.

The Alicanto Grande line-up was the answer, and Bailey was keen for it to have a good specification for the money, making this the company’s highest-end range.

The initial line-up was kept to just a handful of models, all of which had a popular layout and all of which had four berths and fixed beds, which could make them a tempting prospect for those on the lookout for the best used caravans.

Since the first iteration, Alicanto Grande models have been further developed over the years and have become a firm favourite for those wanting a luxury Bailey tourer with additional width, with the 2026 season seeing ‘Deluxe’ added to the name, as seen in the Alicanto Grande Deluxe Sintra.

The Alicanto Grande isn’t a Buccaneer or Coachman Lusso chaser – it offers Bailey value with luxury touches, and has a great kit level for the cash.

Model history

The Alicanto Grande range was launched for the 2020 season, using its width to offer more space and also to compete with the competition in the ever-increasing demand for eight-foot-wide, well-equipped tourers. However, Bailey manufactured only four Alicanto Grande models: the Estoril, Sintra, Faro and Porto.

Two were single axles, with the remaining two being twin axles. The Alicanto Grande found favour, especially with Bailey owners who wanted a more upmarket tourer than the Unicorn and who were keen to stay with the brand.

By 2022 only three models were available; one of these was the new Lisbon (on a single axle), and there was also the Evora and Porto. The 2023 model year saw the range sell well; all models had excellent storage and sprung seating, plus lots of kit, including ambient choice lighting to suit the user’s mood.

There was a solar panel, too, and other features included an alarm, TV aerial, BBQ point and ATC.

In terms of layout, the Lisbon had a large front lounge, a central, L-shaped kitchen, and a shower room in the middle with a toilet room opposite.

At the rear was the bedroom, which had an island bed. As always, Bailey gave the Alicanto Grande good night-time illumination (always a strong point of the brand).

The Lisbon was to continue until 2025, which would be its final model year. As a result, they should be quite easy to find on the used forecourts.

  • Scuffed alloy wheels
  • Water ingress on offside awning rails
  • Leaks around front side windows
  • Water present in floors
  • Missing screws on furniture

Price checker

We had a good look at prices for pre-owned examples of the 2023 Lisbon.

We found examples ranging from £26,995 to £28,995, with our particular example (featured here) costing £28,995 – it came fitted with a mover, and had a front protective cover as well as a full-size cover.

When buying, you should check for any extras – for example, covers are particularly useful to have.

Verdict

The Alicanto Grande represents a lot of tourer for the cash – it offers great comfort and spec, yet prices are keen. There are three layouts to choose from.

The Alicanto Lisbon Grande that we saw showed few signs of wear. Do all of the proper checks and take your time looking over one, particularly if it’s a private sale.

Alternative models

If you’re looking for that extra room, check out the Compass Camino 650 from 2023 – it’s a good-size luxury tourer and a great van for two. A good used Camino 650 is around £26,495.

Alternatively, check out an Elddis Affinity 550 – it has the same layout as the Bailey, with a rear fixed bed, but is not an eight-foot-wide van, however. The Affinity is a well specified tourer from £21,995 to £22,595.
